It’s been rumoured for a little while now that the Victorian opener will see the return of the Clockwork Droids. Many will remember they were originally seen all the way back in 2006 in Moffat’s Series 2 episode, The Girl in the Fireplace.
There has been little evidence to support this, but an online CV of a supporting actor in the episode could now add some weight. Sean Ashburn’s CV lists him as playing a “Restaurant Droid”.
It’s not concrete, but it’s food for thought. Certainly, it’s a surprising choice of monster to bring back given their self-contained debut story.
Pic by Ryan Farrell Meanwhile, a minor character who is definitely returning was spotted on set again on Wednesday.
The actor in question is Paul Hickey and he first appeared in Vastra Investigates, one of The Snowmen minisodes. He was uncredited in his first appearance but appears to have an expanded role in Series 8.
According to his online CV he’s called Inspector Gregson. It looks a though Moffat couldn’t resist another Sherlock Holmes nod.
"Peter Capaldi will fulfil a lifelong dream of fighting the Daleks in his first series as the new Doctor. BBC bosses originally wanted the 2014 series of the Time Lord’s adventures to be “exterminator-free’’. The Daleks featured in both last November’s 50th anniversary episode The Day Of The Doctor and also the Christmas special The Time Of The Doctor. So TV chiefs reckoned they should disappear for a while to allow the new Doc to tackle a new batch of monsters. But Capaldi, 55, who admits he is massive fan of the show, told producers it had been his childhood dream to fight the iconic pepperpot villains – and he has got his wish. "
There are no actual details on when exactly, but previous reports said it’ll be sooner rather than later. Episode 2 could be a likely candidate. Writer Phil Ford previously gave us the clue “behind enemy lines.” Could he have been referring to the Daleks?

Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) is set to join the cast of Doctor Who as a recurring character in series 8, which will also introduce Peter Capaldi as the Doctor to millions of viewers for the first time. Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) also teaches.
On joining the show Samuel Anderson said: ‘I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!’
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: ‘For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!’
Filming recently began on episode 4 of the new series which will co-star Robert Goodman (Gangs of New York, Game of Thrones) and episode 5, co-starring Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, Groove High), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (The Smoke, Death in Paradise).

The trio have been filming scenes believed to be for the fourth episode of the run.
The Doctor drops Clara off outside a restaurant and she walks away quickly on her own wearing a black dress. Danny has also entered the same restaurant wearing what else but a pink shirt and jacket.
Une vidéo de tournage de la saison 8:
Curiously one of the extras was seen earlier in the day entering the building in a familiar orange space suit. The same one worn originally by Tennant’s Doctor and later by Smith’s. How this all fits in with the other scenes is anyone’s guess!

Peter Capaldi was introduced to a young autistic girl and he moved to reassure her about him taking over as the Doctor. He tells of how Matt Smith handed over the keys of the TARDIS and gave him the all clear.
He said: “Matt was really nice to me, as Jenna was too. They were both very welcoming to me when I came into the TARDIS. Matt said to me to look after Doctor Who and he gave me his watch and he said that in his own way he was happy that it was me that was coming in. So I will do my very best to be as much fun and as friendly as he is… I will be different.”
After showing a picture of Matt and Jenna he adds: “So they say it’s OK for me to be the Doctor. I hope that you think it would be OK for me to be the Doctor too… I might be a bit noisy at first!

Speaking to Digital Spy, Gatiss said: “The Doctor’s always the Doctor – but you can have a lot of fun playing with people’s expectations
“Everyone knows how the previous Doctor would react in any given situation – and now you just don’t know!”
He adds: “Peter has a very different energy to Matt Smith and to David Tennant. He’s older which changes everything – it’s amazing what a change does!”
“Matt was sublime and I was very sorry to see him go, but it’s also great to have a change – as it has always been with the Doctor.”
